Welcome, to Jurassic Park…

Well, not really. Welcome to the unofficial, unauthorised telling of Jurassic Park through amateur interpretive dance.

Its a bit of chaos in support of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

What is it?

Dance Finds a Way is a community dance project that will present its own sequin-filled take on the sci-fi classic through dance.

Yep, you read that right. We’re calling for adult dance troupes across South East Queensland to participate in a celebration of accessible dance and creative play.

Dancing is for everyone - for everyone to take part in and for everyone to watch. Creative play is important for all of us. That’s why all funds raised will support access to play for sick kids through the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

We particularly encourage beginner dancers to join us as a way of finding their feet in a new hobby. Existing dance classes or groups of game friends can register as a troupe or sign on as an individual and you’ll be pooled with other participants.

Each troupe will be assigned a scene from the iconic Spielberg film to be transformed into a dance of no more than three and a half minutes. From here, it’s ten weeks until we take to the stage in Brisbane. We’ll check in with you throughout the process and smooth out all the technical details.

Finally, we all come together to get sequinned and silly. After a quick rehearsal, we’ll perform in front of an audience. Bring your friends, family, colleagues and dear ones to cheer you on in our own personal experiment of creative chaos.

FAQs

  • The performance will take place on Saturday the 27th of June at The Roundhouse Theatre. There will be a rehearsal in the afternoon before the 19:00 show.

  • Absolutely! As long as you can be there for the performance, you’re in.

  • For sure. We’re showcasing the accessibility of dance! You can sign up as an ‘orphan’ on the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Each orphan team will learn a set routine throughout a 5 week course. It is beginner friendly and super fun.

  • Just like choreography, the costumes are at the whim of your troupe’s creativity. Each team will procure their own costumes. They don’t have to be fancy or expensive, as long as they communicate the narrative of your section.
